Everybody is talking about it and I for one love it…Fifty, our Fifty, the Fifty we’ve adored for so long, he’s now a household name. It’s crazy, and exciting and surreal and in my opinion very well deserved because its no surprise to anyone how much I’ve always loved this story, how much most of us do!! From the beginning and still now on re-reads these books take you on a journey and bring out so many emotions in you, it does what only an amazing writer can do; it makes you fall in love with the characters.
Now most of the talk is who should play him in the movie (still can’t believe we’ve gotten to this point…Icy, thank you, and wow, just wow). This is not so easy for me, not even a little. When I read MotU there was only one person in my mind, Rob, always was and still is, he is my Fifty. Now do I think it will happen in the movie, sadly no, probably not, so the question then becomes who else can I picture as Christian, our Fifty, a god among men…the answer, I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA!!!!! So I did some searching and BAM, there he was, the only other person I looked at and said WOAH that could sooo be Fifty, lets take a look mmmkay…
Ummm yeah, HOLY SHIT, he is beautiful!!! Is he a bit to big, probably, does he have too many tattoo’s, definitely, can he act, I have no idea but his look screams Fifty to me!!! That face is….DAYUM!!!! But the ability to act is more important then the look and I dont know enough about him to know if he could pull it off, so this still leaves me with my original problem, who is good enough for Fifty??? Well, I only know of one…

I’ve read the books and I think that he could pull off the “so cold it burns” attitude that Fifty (IMO) exhumes. Ian is very interested in playing the part. He talked about it on Ryan Seacrest the other day. I can see Chris Pine (Star Trek) as Fifty. But the dream would be Rob playing Fifty. That movie would have to be NC-17.

I adore Ian Somerhalder, but not for Fifty. There is only one Christian for me, and that is Robert.There is no script yet so I don’t know how we can totally eliminate Rob from this. Ryan Seacrest said this is the part everyone will want, wouldn’t that include Rob? (please say yes). If the script is good, he might consider it. I know, lets get Cronenberg to direct, then he would come on board.

Great post, Steph. We will all have a hard time if Rob is not cast as Fifty because he’s just “it” for us and has been for so long now. But in an effort to stay Fifty Shades of Neutral, I have been looking at other possibilities. When I saw the guy you featured in this post as a candidate for Fifty, I thought he was gorgeous too. I even asked kiTT who the hell he was because all I had to go on was an avi for a very clever twitter account. Finally figured out he is Jessie Pavelka…and he is yummy.
I still really think that Ryan Gosling could pull it off and, like Shay, Henry Cavill totally has the look for the part. Have you seen him in the Dunhill London fragrance ad?!!

Jessie Palvelka is so HOT! Awesome shape and I love the way he looks…I like his hair better when he has it more natural than when he lightens it. *even though I’m blonde and green eyed, I prefer men with Darker hair, and light eyes* Jessie has had some small parts in tv shows and movies, but he is known more for being a personal fitness trainer, and fitness model. In any case Steph…I like your taste in Hotties! I think he looks fine just as he is…tatts and all! They can use makeup to cover up the tatts. He is sexy.
Even though I adore Rob…I’m leaning toward Henry Cavill for the part. He has an awesome shape and piercing blue eyes and I don’t think there will be so much crazyiness surrounding Henry that Twilight fans might bring to sets and such. Some directors and producers I understand want to distance themselves from that. I also read that Rob is interested in it, but he has reservations on there be three movies to deal with (???)…I think Rob is trying to distance himself from the sterotype of Edward and may fear if he had the role of Christian Grey he’d go through it all over again. *NOT that we’d mind, but it may not be what he wants*.
In any case, it should be exciting to see who does get the role, and Ian is also a Hottie. I could see him in that role too, but my #1 choice would and always be Rob for the role. Whoever gets the role will have big shoes to fill!

Have to say i’m with you on Jessie Pavelka. I saw him in an obese programme here in the UK he was attending a wedding and i though if ever he’s wearing a SILVER tie i’ll just faint!! Turned around and yep that’s exactly what he was wearing!!! While i’d love to Rob in the role i think it would be then impossible for him to shake the Twilight tag. Jessie would do it for me that’s for sure.

Hi Steph. Awesome post as always. I actually just finished rereading MOTU for about the hundreth time. I guess all the hype around Fifty Shades just made me want to relive the love all over again. Rob will always be Fifty to me. I just can’t/don’t/won’t picture anyone else but him! I’d love for him and Kristen to do it together. They both need to break out from the Twilight tag and what better way to do it? Move from PG-13 to NC-17!!

I’m with you Steph. In my mind Fifty will always be Rob (especially in the white shirt from the VF photo shoot). That said, I don’t think Rob should or would take the role. Recent rumours of Ian Somerhalder wanting the role has excited me a bit. Mostly, I’m leaning towards an unknown taking the role. Can’t wait to see how it pans out.

Some of the guys listed are too blond, too muscular or lack that “smoldering look” that we relate to 50. Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill or Matt Bomer all get my vote. Once 50 is cast then finding a good Anastasia would be easier. She would need to express innocence but be able to vamp it up to very sexy. So excited for Icy and all her fans. Rob would be great also. But… who knows if that would be too obvious. If Icy wants to pick lesser know actors… then??
